Connecticut's Beardsley Zoo will celebrate the installation of a new Able Table, an addition that expands accessibility and creates a more inclusive gathering space for guests of all abilities.
Designed by the RiseUP Group, the Able Table features an innovative design that allows guests using wheelchairs to comfortably sit alongside family and friends. The design eliminates barriers often found with traditional picnic tables and ensures everyone can share the same experience together.
The table was generously donated by Brian Zullo of Birch & Flame in West Hartford in memory of his uncle, Gary Jessup, who dedicated more than 20 years of service to Connecticut's Beardsley Zoo. Remembered for his kindness, determination, and commitment to improving the Zoo, Gary played an instrumental role in revitalizing the Zoo's gardens and championed accessibility for all visitors.
Adding to its uniqueness, the Able Table has been transformed into a vibrant work of art by local artist Patrick Ganino with the assistance of his son Colson and features a custom wildlife mural celebrating the beauty and diversity of the Zoo's animal collection. Located on the patio in front of the Peacock Café, the table will provide an inviting gathering place where all guests can enjoy meals, conversation, and time together.
