Visiting a museum as a family can help promote cognitive development, emotional intelligence and family bonding. According to this study from Americans for the Arts, the modern themes and abstract nature of contemporary art enhances critical thinking among children as it encourages them to ask questions, observe closely and form their own interpretations. How wonderful is it that we have The Aldrich Contemporary Art Museum in our area to visit? The Aldrich has exhibitions that rotate every few months so there is always something new to see, experience and learn. In fact, this Sunday, June 7th is the opening of a NEW exhibit: The Aldrich Decennial: I am What is Around Me. The series will spotlight current artists and practices emerging from Connecticut with works created within the last decade. Spanning the full footprint of the Museum's 8,000-square-foot galleries and recently renovated three-acre campus and Sculpture Garden, this survey will explore the varied artistic expressions of generations of artists who have chosen to live and work outside major art centers.
In addition to its rotating exhibitions, the museum offers a variety of family programs on their calendar such as the monthly All Ages Discovery Tour and Storytimes as well as Camp Aldrich in the summer.

Founded by art collector and fashion designer Larry Aldrich in 1964, The Aldrich Contemporary Art Museum is one of the oldest contemporary art museums in the United States. The Museum is one of the few independent, non-collecting institutions in the country and the only museum in Connecticut solely dedicated to the presentation of contemporary art. The Museum is located on Main Street in historic downtown Ridgefield, Connecticut an hour and a half north of New York City. The campus includes a two-acre Sculpture Garden and is walking distance from a Revolutionary War battlefield, and many restaurants and shops.
